A Conversation with Brent and Ryan, from TWIN SIX
Tim Grahl: Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to sit down and chat.
Brent Gale: Are you recording this?
Ryan Carlson: (laughs) I’ve got $5 that says Brent swears first.
Tim Grahl: So how was your first year in business?
Brent Gale: Great. Went really well.
Ryan Carlson: Yep. We set some sales goals, I think we’ve exceeded every one of them. But we really suck at math, you never know.
Brent Gale: We signed up a lot of cool shops, we met and talked to a ton of really cool people. We had a solid first year.
Tim Grahl: Tell me about the new line, and how things are shaping up for 2007.
Ryan Carlson: We’re really excited about it. Reworked and refined a couple things. Added some new stuff, including two women’s jerseys, a bunch of t-shirts, socks, bottles and a kids line called T6 Junior.

Brent Gale: We’re also partnering with some great companies. Twin Six is teaming up with WaltWorks to design and produce a very limited run of “custom stock” hand built 29′er frames and forks that we will be selling in early 2007. We’ve also worked with Crumpler to design a killer messenger bag, which are now available from twinsix.com.

Tim Grahl: Very cool. It has to be very busy back at the office then, yes?
Ryan Carlson: Oh yes. Very busy. We’re now employing about 4,500 people back in Minneapolis, and have T6 branch offices opening in Hong Kong, New York, and Milan sometime next summer.
Brent Gale: Can’t wait. Never been to Milan.
Ryan Carlson: Milan is awesome.
Brent Gale: When the hell were you in Milan?
Ryan Carlson: Does “hell” count as a swear word? Seriously though, it’s still just the two of us. It’s not easy, but nobody said that total world domination would be.
Brent Gale: We could do what we do in half the time, but our product would be half as good. We do a lot of research, read a lot of blogs, inspect a lot of different products, and take a lot of time getting things right. That’s how we roll.
Tim Grahl: So, what’s the reward?
Ryan Carlson: Anytime we get an email from someone commenting on how well something fits, or looks, or performs. That makes all the effort we put into Twin Six worth it.
Brent Gale: Standing behind something we believe in, and knowing we’ve done everything possible to build something that we’re proud of. That’s pretty cool.
Tim Grahl: Thanks very much guys. Congratulations on everything, and best of luck to you in 2007.
Brent Gale: Word.
Ryan Carlson: Holla.
