2009 Gary Fisher Marlin : Preview

August 9th, 2008 by Arleigh Jenkins

My local shop is slowly rolling in the new 2009 product, as Trek or Gary Fisher hasn’t released their new 2009 catalogs I wanted to show the bikes that catch my eye as they come in until the catalogs are released in a few weeks.

The first that came in is the Gary Fisher Marlin.  The price is $709.99 at my local shop where I snapped these photos.  The specs below are pulled from our dealer page but the biggest thing that caught my eye on these bikes are the disc ready (center lock) wheels.  I know the prices across the board in the bike industry are jumping up due to over seas pricing and our lovely economy but being able to buy a v-brake bike that down the road you can upgrade to disc will save you money up front.

Is it just me, or does that top tube look really long?

Have you seen the 2009 Wahoo, yet? Do you know when the 2009 GFs will be widely available?

    Jeff,

After Trek World (which is this week) we will have full specs and better photos. Give me this week and I’ll try and pull stock photos off our dealer site. I don’t know availability yet. Normally Trek launches and puts their next year bikes after Trek World. (Think late August, early September.)

    Tim,

The top tube is longer than most. It is part of the “Genesis” geometry that Fisher loves so much. Also the slightly bent down tube plays optical illusions.

    yea…

bummer that the increased demand does not contribute to bike prices being lower

my wife and are are each shopping for bikes
well… I finished my shopping and started buying
but with my wife we are not waiting for the 2009s
we are looking for a well specked out bike that meets here needs/desires
    the problem is size

    so we are guessing around

    sorry… long story
maybe the rise in prices will aid in clearing out all the 08 stock

    either way
I am stoked to retire the geared Karate Monkey from racing
I bet my new Niner Rip 9 will bring me the smiles that my first 29ers gave me
bikes you may recall from your days up north near the mason dixon line

thanks for the pictures. and i was wondering… does anyone know why isn’t there a G2 “big sur” for 2009? i can’t find it on the gary fisher website, which is really a pity because i was looking forward to riding one this year.

  13. 13 connor

About the big sur 2009. It IS on the website:
    http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/model/big-sur

but for some reason it´s not available from the index of G2 hardtails:
    http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/series/g2-hardtails

    Strange.

  14. 14 Arleigh Jenkins

I asked my trek rep. The Big Sur for ‘09 is European only.

  15. 15 wheeler

european only? that’s odd. do you know why they would make such a move? it’s hard to believe that there is no demand on the american hardtail market…

  16. 16 Arleigh Jenkins

From the rep’s mouth it looks like hardtails are going up due to the economy, but there is a huge 26″ hard tail market overseas. Here for high end hardtails you are looking boutique or 29″

I just got this bike 2 days ago and I love it. I went to the bike shop to get a deal on a 2008 bike but this bike fit so good and it was only about $50 more in the end. This bike has alot of good components on it that were not there last year. I personally got the Marlin with disc brakes. I went for a ride the night that I got it and it was very smooth (the tires which seemed very shallow also handle mud very well)

came across this website searching for production dates because i just bought an 09 hoo koo e koo and i was told its estimated arrival is nov 11. But it seems that these bikes are already being produced and rolled out. Does anyone know when all of the models will be available
