Since we invented this product I thought I'd write and say nice job creating a DIY for it. We've been making cool products from recycled bicycle parts since 1994, and even though our designs are copyrighted, we love it when people take the time to make their own for personal use.

For anyone who likes the concept but doesn't have the time, tools, or skills to DIY, check out our website. The openers are only $9.99 when you buy two or more.

Cheers,

So, other than a grinder, any other suggestions for cutting the material? I tried all the blades I have and didn't scratch the surface!

Just an FYI for those attempting to do the design using the chain: Definitely find a cassette with the 'speed holes'. I just made one using a cassette without holes and ended up needing a carbide bit to drill though the gear.

Works great though, thank for the idea!

What a great idea! I'm sure everyone has old bike bits they are reluctant to throw away but don't know what to do with!

I love that. I'm always looking for ways to recycle parts. I searched for a site that might list uses for old parts, but was unsuccessful. Anyone know? staff@directoryofbikes.com
