Bondhus

January 30th, 2008 by Arleigh Jenkins

Being a mechanic, very often my tools are my life and you want tools that last. Especially after you have invested your own hard earned cash into it. My favorite L bend allen wrenches for the past 6 months have been the Bondhus Ball End. The are light in your hands, and very durable. The ball end hasn’t worn down over many bike builds and I still feel confident that all the edges will bite instead of slipping.

For under $16 they are a great deal that will outlast the cost.

What’s the purpose of the ball end?

The ball end is normally on the longer end of a L allen to get a bolt started at a weird angle. Atleast that’s what I think it is for.

NEVER torque down with a ball end. you’ll most likely strip out whatever you are tightening.

I’ve been using those for years and they are still good as new!

If you like those, you should get the Bondhus ball driver set - ball end with a screwdriver grip. These are perfect for derailleur cable anchors. This would be the one application where you would want to use the ball end to torque down on the bolt. The torque amount of the screwdriver grip is perfect for derailleur anchors.

Also, the ball end is perfect for adjusting brake reach.

Ahhh, good tools. Thanks for posting these.

Yeah, another vote for the screwdriver set. Great for starting water bottle cage bolts at an odd angle, then swtich to the L end to snug the down. I’m something of an allen wrench junkie, though. Is four sets too many? T-handle are good for appliactions that require some grunt, 3/8″ driver for use with a ratchect, breakers bar or torque wrench….mmmmm, tools.
