Don’t Crack Your Handlebar
November 13th, 2007 by Arleigh JenkinsIt seems the more people are going to over sized bars the more bars I see cracked or too tight just waiting to crack. There are two big things to remember about tightening your handlebars.
First is torque spec is your friend. Don’t muscle it or you most likely will strip out the head of the bolt or over tighten the clamp.
Second is to tighten the bolts evenly. The new 4 bolt design is stronger but allows you 4 bolts to clamp down unevenly. Make sure to snug down the bolts so they are all even and then tighten across the bar, never right next to it. This will allow the clamp to be brought down evenly.
