Light & Motion Solo : More Thoughts
October 25th, 2007 by Arleigh JenkinsThe on going review for the Light & Motion Solo continues, my initial thoughts you can read about here. I ride at night about once or twice a week with this Solo. The light is still doing well, keeps a charge for about 2 hours. I’ve used it on the road, local trails, early morning before sunrise and late evening when there is not a star in the sky.
My biggest comment about this light is it’s durability. It has been rained on, dropped and the cable was squashed in a door jam. Yet, it still is working like a champ.
The next biggest comment is the brightness. This isn’t for a 24 hour racer, or someone that plans to go red line into the dark. I would say it’s a great second light, or something to get you into night riding. I plan on using it for local rides or if I get caught when the sun is setting. I don’t plan on doing too many night rides with it solely, mainly due to the lack of brightness keeps my speed and depth perception low. Those two things are very key with riding a rigid single speed.
For the price you can’t beat this light. The only other thing that could compete with it are either used, or blow out models. I’m very weary buying bike parts used unless I know the person. You don’t get a warranty, you don’t know how many times it was dropped, how it was ridden or anything. Buying through a local bike shop is always my recommendation. If they don’t have what you like or you are looking for a deal buying through Jenson or a large online company is a good bet. Normally if the light (or other product) they are selling is out of warranty you still get a 30 day warranty with them.
