Habit Shorts : First Ride
October 24th, 2007 by Arleigh JenkinsI took my first real off road ride this past weekend on the Harlot Habit shorts.
While wearing the shorts out of the house I noticed something very quickly, there’s no pockets!! Where do I put my keys? I finally shoved my house key in my sports bra and went off. The fit of the shorts is awesome. They weren’t too snug around the waist and while pedaling they are still a great length. After a few minutes on the bike thoughts of the shorts disappeared and I just rode on. (This is a very good thing.)
After 20 minutes my thoughts were brought back to the shorts. While descending I felt the horrible “gap” between my shorts and jersey. The shorts were creeping down. In the shorts defense I did have the most “Lycra” feeling cycling shorts I have. I can’t sit on a Brooks saddle with these shorts because I’ll simply slide off.
The first ride was good. I never truly thought of the shorts other than when I was far behind my saddle going down a descent. I want to take a longer ride with the shorts (3-5 hours, that includes hike a bike & maybe a couple tumbles) to see how they with stand hours on the body.
Some questions I want answered for myself which I hope to answer in the next couple weeks.
- Do they rub in some wrong areas?
- Do they stretch out if worn in the rain/snow?
- Will the creeping stop with other shorts?
- Are they crash resistant?
- Do they ride up while walking up the side of a mountain with your bike on your shoulder?
Another couple rides in the mountains I hope to have these answers. Maybe even some more photos.
