Saddle - the one that I see most women having the best luck is the Terry Butterfly. Most decent shops will allow a "trade in" program - as long as you don't crash and they can resell the saddle they will credit you towards a new one until you find the right one.

Padded shorts - I recommend a good mid level short, not the $30 but not the $80. Have her try them out and see what fits best. Make sure she knows not to ride with underwear between the short and her skin.

Baggy shorts - soccer shorts, gym shorts, anything will be great to start off in. You want her to feel confident and not worry about what she looks like.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions please let me know!!

My wife is about to start riding. I want her to start out with a good saddle and apperal, hoping to make her first experience a good one. I am open for suggestions, regarding a seat, shorts or anything that will make her more comfortable.

Thanks for the review. I have had my eye on these shorts for a while. I love my Harlot knickers!

Tim,

I've only seen the Chrome knickers second hand but from what I recall they were much heavier duty than these shorts. These are pretty thin and easy to move in, but still have a durable "rip proof" feel to them.

The material on those shorts looks similar to the Chrome knickers... you know if it's the same type stretchiness?
