Multi Tool Contest - Some Stories

October 2nd, 2007 by Arleigh Jenkins

Here are some excerpts from the multi contest so far. Think you can match them? Post your story or review!!!

Marc
“I’ve used 2 multi tools: the crank brothers tool (above) and a muti-tool called the Alien (not sure if it is still on the market). I feet the crank brother tool is aesthetically pleasing but difficult to use. The tool parts (bits) don’t lock which makes it difficult to apply sufficient torque in some instances. The chain tool is also very difficult to use. The Alien on the other hand was much easier to use, well thought out, very ergonimic, with a very effective chain tool. “

” I’m thinking the other guys that have posted so far don’t need another multi tool, and one of them doesn’t even like Crank Bros. I love Crank bros products but am too broke to buy one.”

Allen
“….Without that tool, I don’t know if I’d be able to have kids or not.  I can’t wait to get an actual multi tool but for now, I’m carrying old reliable.

Having lost the following tools, in the following order, between 1998 and the present day–

    Topeak Alien
    Topeak Alien XS
    Topeak Macguyver
    Park AWS-10
Giant Folding Tool (snappy name, eh?)

–I have most recently bought what I consider to be the perfect lightweight tool: the Park IB-2.

I look forward to losing it.

Anthony Jr. While obviosly a conisuer of multi-tools should not be allowed to recieve….or loose another multi-tool.
This tool should definately be awarded to someone who will not only appreciate it, but also someone who can keep track of thier crap. :)
    Sorry Anthony, All’s fair….right?

The contest is based on content of story or review. Not if someone DESERVES it. I deserve many things in life, but if I don’t step up to bat and hit it home I don’t get it.

After about 7 years I broke my Alien multitool. My crank came loose miles from anywear. The tapered square socket became damaged and I beeat it back on with a piece of brick which I padded out with some leaves to stop from putting brick marks on the crank arm. Then I tried to torque it down with the Alien. The plastic housing of the Alien gave way and the little attaching clip sprung off. So I can still use the Alien but it is in 2 pieces.

i want to sell it and buy a new bottom bracket, mine is shot… i have that tool already and it works great. my onnly complaint is that the tools sometimes retreat into the chassis at inoppurtune moments causing mild bruising of the hands and fingers. i dont even own a set of real tools but between this multitool and my friends bb tool, i have pretty much all i need
