Light & Motion Solo : Initial Thoughts

September 29th, 2007 by Arleigh Jenkins

I’ve had my Light & Motion Solo NiMH for a little over a month. The first week of owning the light I used it for a night ride and a couple commutes. The battery then had a been of a crap out which I’ll explain a bit more in a moment. A week went by & finally I got a new battery to give my light new life (pun intended!)

In the excitement of having a new light I didn’t charge the battery fully, which in the end shortened the life span of the battery to one charge. (Yes I should listen to my own advice, I was excited!!!!!) Learning my mistake I have a fresh battery and a couple more rides with the light.

How I use the light : Casual off road night rides, commuting home through the city, & night road rides. I use the helmet mount & carry the battery in my Camelbak, Timbuk2 or jersey pocket.

Comments so far : Charge it completely the first time!! It is wonderful for a night jaunt, or commute. I used mine 3 days in a row, and it worked great. (until i ran out of juice and the battery’s memory decided to tell it not to work anymore!! - my bad) I will say that I have “out run the light” a few times on a fast road, or tight switch backs. Meaning due to my speed the bulb brightness wasn’t allowing me to look far enough a head with the light. I like the durabilty of the halogen it taken multiple drops in my bag & one slow sleep crash. The weight of the battery, and the bulb light is what you get for the price. If I am commuting, or a casual night ride where the trail doesn’t need to be lit up like day I’m going to pick this over my LED Exposure Enduro Turbo mainly due to the cost invested in the product.

I hope to run it most the winter, and maybe pick up another LED either a Nite Rider MiNewt or Light & Motion Stella to use for fast past rides.

MSRP : $129.99
