This chain wear indicator is the simplest way to figure out if it’s time for a new chain. Open this up and set it on the chain… if it flattens out against the chain, then it’s time for a new one.

They’re chaintool is also pretty cool. Extremely lightweight (especially compared to my park tool one) and has a little compartment to store you’re extra links.
