Kona’s “Magic” Suspension
July 2nd, 2007 by Brad QuartuccioYou’ve heard of virtual pivot points that allow the theoretical pivot placement move throughout suspension travel, but here’s a new one. A moving pivot, a pivot that is itself suspended.
Kona has always been a company pretty down with riding, and free of fluff designs. Recently they’ve announced their new Magic link, a moving suspension pivot to modify the suspension travel and bicycle handling. They took their usual faux-bar linkage and added a link and spring to the bottom pivot, allowing it to move in reaction to pedaling and braking forces.

You’ve really got to check out the demo on Kona’s site for a basic understanding of whats happening. Basically, seems like a method to keep handling neutral throughout the suspension travel while counteracting any pedal or brake induced maladies. Interesting, very interesting.
Got any thoughts on this one? Insight to the design? Post it.
