New suspension system - Split Pivot
June 11th, 2007 by Brad QuartuccioDave Weagle’s DW-Link has been well received in a crowded market - filled as much with different designs as marketspeak. From the mind that brought the DW-Link to market comes a new suspension system, Split Pivot.
The basis of the system is the concentric rear pivot. The chainstay and seatstay are joined by a pivot which rotates about the rear axle, or more accurately the centerline of. This system reportedly reduces suspension compression under acceleration and keeps braking forces neutral, not affecting the suspension feel. And with the pivot in line with the axle, the whole rear end should stiffen up as compared to some other systems. No exotic tube shapes required, and there are options to use a 12mm thru-axle, a 12mm QR or a standard 10mm QR meaning that off the shelf wheels fit.
Most importantly in my opinion however is that it is a new pivot placement that allows suspension designs not tethered to the oft-debated Horst patent. It will be interesting to see where this design heads in the coming years.

it was very strange…
I asked at the Dirt Rag tent at the 24 Hour of Big Bear for some Urban Velo stickers…
they did not have them
they did not have stickers for Urban Cyclist or Urban Cycling either
I was bummed
I read yesterday, here…

about the 2008 Trek Fuels, featuring what looks to be a similarly designed pivot concentric with the rear dropout. Looks like as close to a Horst link as you can get without getting in legal trouble.
Hmm might be a lawsuit waitng to happen here>>>
