Deuter Hydro EXP 8
June 5th, 2007 by MikeBlue Collar just received the Hydro EXP 8 pack from Deuter USA. I’m really excited about getting a review in on the pack. It has a lot of great features that I’m looking forward to checking out.

One of the first things that I noticed when I got the pack was the amount of storage. I have counted 7 pockets to store gear in. According to the Deuter Web site it has up to 650 cubic inches of storage. The main compartment contains a mini pump holder to keep it from making its way down to the bottom of the pack.

The main compartment is also expandable to more than twice the normal size.

There are also small zipper pockets on the hip straps for easy access.

To help with comfort, Deurter developed the airstripes system specifically for mountain bikers. It is comprised of contoured foam pads covered with a very breathable mesh. The goal of the airstripes system is to keep the air flowing across the riders back. The channel between the two foam pads is what drives this air flow. Read more about the airstripes system here.

The reservoir that came with the pack has a lot features itself. It has a special film covering that provides taste free usage. The inner surface of the reservoir is covered in Glass-Like material that keeps bacteria from growing. A clip that slides on and off makes cleaning and filling the reservoir very easy. The reservoir holds 3 liters of fluid.

I guess you can see why I’m chomping at the bit to start using this pack. Check back for my initial thoughts and full review of the Deuter Hydro EXP 8 pack.

Hey, I am a huge Deuter fan. I own my 4th or 5th Deuter pack and I love them. It is great to see, that they are starting to sell more and more in the US. I am (as Deuter) originally from Germany:)
That small zippered pocket on the strap is a stroke of genius!
The biggest complaint I have about my budget pack (High Sierra sold at Costco for $19.99! at that price they’re almost disposable, but I’m on my second year with it, so I’m not knocking it) I can’t find an easy access spot for my keys, they always end up at the bottom of the pack.
