New rear air AND coil shocks, singlespeed carbon cranks, new Code disc brakes and uprated Juicy brakes.

Once again, Greg Herbold led an all-star cast of engineers and racers to present SRAM’s new 2008 lineup. There weren’t any shocking new developments this year, but enough to keep people interested for the presentation (unless that was just the draw of the free burritos to the hungry journos.

New shocks. Greg Herbold shows off the new Monarch Air Shock. Intended for 80-160mm travel bikes, the new Solo Air Monarch shock weighs in around 200g. There’s a clever swivel air valve so that you can fill the shock without having to squeeze a pump into a teeny space. There will be different levels of shock, with a basic shock, one with an ‘on/off’ of the platform and one with an adjustable platform, that can be switched on and off too. There will be sag marks anodised onto the shock shaft to help with shock setup too.

The X-O rear mech has had some love. As well as the SRAM gold finish, to commemorate SRAM’s 20th anniversary, it gains an alloy backing plate to the derailleur cage, which adds a couple of grammes, but greatly increases derailleur life. The front plate is still carbon on the short and mid-cage, and the long cage mech also gains a carbon front plate.

I know that this is BlueCollarMTB and not BlueCollarRoad
    but….

did you make mention of the SRAM road bike lever recall?

I meant to post something about it
but it slipped through the blogger cracks

SRAMs new offerings seem underwhelming compared to the Shimano anslaught from the fall. But then again, SRAM stuff tends to work much better AS IS these days. Less need for change.

What I would LIKE to see is an X.0 8-speed gripshift!! I like that tornado grip!! Give it to me in 8 speed. Or let us purchase tornado grips for an X-9.

BTW SRAM, you guys need to adjust your numbers. If you make something a little better, you should bump it up into the same numbering scheme as the shifters.

Instead of an Juicy Ultimate, it should be an X-0 Juicy!!! It makes your marketing simpler. Same thing for cranks. Top of the like should be X-0!!!!

I do like the gold and black derailleur. Perfect Purdue Colors!!! Now can I get Flack Jacket tubing in white to match my color scheme?

Ditto on the 8 speed X.0. I have hated 9 speed since it came out, but it is getting difficult to find the 8 speed grip shifts anymore. I have noticed the 08 X.9 grip shifts only come in 9 speed now as well.
