MacGyver Repairs with Duct Tape

January 3rd, 2007 by Tim Grahl

Duct Tape is an essential for every repair kit. Here’s a few things I’ve used it for…

  • Closing up a ripped saddle
  • Tying off frayed cable ends
  • Attaching a mini-pump to the frame when the bracket is lost/broken/etc
  • “Good enough” repairs on the trail… cracked helmet, popped tube, busted shoes, etc

Where have you used duct tape in a pinch?

    I’ve used duct tape to:

    -Attach seat (broken seat post)
    -Keep shoe on (broken buckle)
-Keep tube in tire (blown sidewall)
-Keep tire on wheel (blown rim)
    -Bandage

Everytime the magic stuff got me to my destination!

Last ride I was on, one guy used it replace his worn rim strip tape.

Duct Tape has its place, but I think my new handyman’s secret weapon is zip ties.

And velcro strips, too; great stuff.

its also great when your watter bottle cage falls off at a 24 hour race and thats were your battey goes. and when you cant afford new shoes and the velcrow wares out. bottem line is it the poor mans tool but i fine with that.
