Crank Brothers PPP Pump
November 14th, 2006 by Tim GrahlOne of the must-haves for any ride is a mini-pump. I recently purchased the Crank Brothers PPP (Power Pump Pro) and have tried it out a couple different times. On my last ride I got to use it for real. i.e. fix a flat.
The features on this pump blow away my old one. First off, it has a pressure gauge mounted on it which, for obvious reasons, is a huge help. It’s much more accurate than me squeezing the tire.
Some other specs:
- Weight: 120g
- Length: 6.9″ / 175mm
- Material: 6061-T6 aluminum barrels
- Pressure: 115psi / 8bar
- Air Switch: high volume / high pressure
- Retail Price: $30

The coolest feature by far is the high volume/pressure switch on the end of the pump. Once the tire pressure gets up pretty high it’s often hard to keep pushing more air in. No problemo on this pump, just turn the switch to “High Pressure” and you can start pumping again much easier.

The only downside to the pump is due to it’s size. This isn’t going to be the quickest you’ve ever inflated your tire. I say it’s par for the course for this size mini-pump, but if you often find yourself in a hurry to change a flat I would spring for the higher volume Crank Brothers PPA or just buy yourself a good CO2 pump.

All in all, so far this pump is very cool and worth the $30.

That is the same pump I use! It’s also the pest non-CO2 pump out there. Great construction and good warranty highlight this pump!!!!
This pump is pretty sweet, but you have to take care of it. I’ve had a few people come in to my shop that have cross threaded or damaged the shaft, and once that happens you are SOL. If the threads were a little bit deeper or longer I would be sold.
