City heeds bikers

They’re quiet, non-polluting and aren’t driving up the cost of gas at the pump. What’s not to like about bikes?

Apparently a lot, judging by how Susan Lucas and her fellow bikers were treated by some Wilson motorists on their Saturday morning bike excursion.

…The city received a $24,500 grant this spring from the N.C. Department of Transportation to develop a comprehensive bicycle plan. Earlier this month, City Council agreed to kick in up to $10,500, for a total of $35,000.

One of the plan’s goals is to promote greater safety, said Janet B. Holland, the city’s interim director of development services.

It’s good to see a city working toward a more bike friendly atmosphere. Hopefully the money is managed correctly.
