TheKSBWChannel.com:

An eBay executive from Santa Cruz died in a bicycle accident on Felton Empire Road on Sunday, police reported.

Officials said Robert Hebeler, a 49-year-old vice president of the online auction company, was riding a bike when it crossed a double yellow line and was hit by a truck heading in the opposite direction.

Authorities said Hebeler was wearing a helmt, but suffered serious head injuries.

Officials said Hebeler was airlifted to a Bay Area hospital, where he later died.

This is local to me and I heard about it. I didn’t realize Hebeler worked at eBay.

I can totally imagine the accident — the area is filled with twisty windy steep mountain roads. They’re fun to ride but you need to keep it in control.

    yea, crazy.

I live on the other side of the Quarry from Empire in Felton from where it happened. And I was climbing up the grade to get to one of my local secret offroad-downhills around a blind turn, and a monster truck came blazin down going about 60 mph and I threw my self in the thorns to be sure I didn’t get hit.

That happened twice within two weeks, so it doesn’t surprise me that a rodie got hit. Poor fellow, lets bow our heads.

    signed,

    The flying-fish.
