Judge finds fault with fixies

Yesterday at the Multnomah County Courthouse the law came down against fixed gear bicycles.

On June 1, 2006 Portland bike messenger Ayla Holland was given a ticket for allegedly violating Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 815.280(2)(a) which states, “A bicycle must be equipped with a brake that enables the operator to make the braked wheels skid on dry, level, clean pavement. strong enough to skid tire.”

    Great! We’re wasting valuable court time on the enforcement of antiquated and obtuse laws. Brilliant!

    Meanwhile the Judge and the Prosecutor ride home in their fosssil fueled behemoths whilst young men and women put their lives on the line in a foreign country to make sure they can keep driving those vehicles. Ironic, isn’t it?

    Can’t believe how stupid and ignorant some people are… So are disc brakes brakes? it’s obvious not a caliper nor a drum…
