Animals on the trail…
June 1st, 2006 by Tim GrahlI’ve come across snakes, squirrels, deers and the occasional dog. But I’ve never had to find my way around a moose.

Whoa, I had no idea there were meeses there…
I was hiking along the headwaters of the Colorado River in Rocky Mountain National Park a few years ago when I happened along a small herd of moose. I was almost nose-to-nose with a juvenile (about as tall as me). He looked up at me, as did several other moose (meese? mooses?) in the vicinity. I carefully backed away as the moose stuck their heads back into the shrubs they were munching on.
I live in Alaska and mountain bike to work at least 3 times per week.I see a moose almost everyday, and I live in Anchorage the largest city in the state. We have great trails here that wind thru the city and follow the rivers along the green belt.Sometimes they will not get off the trail and I have to carry my bike around them thru the woods. You never want to get to close to them, people have been killed or injured making that mistake. As long as you give them there space they make a riding the trails interesting, most I seen was 4 in one morning!!!
