This guy is lucky he didn’t get hurt any worse.

The driver of a van who struck a bicyclist on Nickeplate Road north of Ionia may face felonious assault charges after police investigation determined the collision may have been intentional.

LB Struble, of Ionia, told the Sentinel-Standard that he was riding his mountain bike into Ionia Tuesday afternoon when a man driving a silver minivan ran into him from behind.

…Struble claims the driver intentionally struck him, since the man allegedly drove past him three times and on the last pass made a comment threatening his life. Struble said it was shortly after that last pass that he heard an engine accelerate and felt the jarring blow of the van striking the rear wheel of his bike.

Tragic but not shocking. I have always been baffled by motorists’ disdain for cyclists. So sad. Glad they caught the guy.

Like Alyson above, I have never really understand what makes seemingly normal drivers hateful and agressive towards cyclists. Maybe if there were to spend a little time riding one, it would alleviate a little of that residual stress that they seem to have. Who knows?
