Park officials say the cyclist attacked by a black bear just outside Banff’s town limits on Friday night was hunted down. They say 41-year-old Greg Flaaten was chased by the bear as he was mountain biking alone on a popular trail .

The town employee was rescued when two of his office colleagues, including town manager Robert Earl, also out on a ride, saw his abandoned bike and then heard his cry for help. When they saw the bear between themselves and Flaaten, they realized they wouldn’t be able to reach him safely, so they went to get help.

And then there’s this: “That incident came just five days after a Davie woman out for a jog went missing near a canal in nearby Sunrise. Her dismembered body was found the next day, and the alligator that attacked her was captured and killed Saturday, parts of the jogger’s body still in its digestive tract.”

That would get the heart pounding. Not unlike trying to out-run your local small-time drug dealer and his buddies: http://www.cyclingforums.com/t341113.html

Its always better to accompany someone than going alone.I can’t say that if there have been somebody with Greg,he would have been able to flatten the bear but alleast he would have called somebody for help. Thats why we say “two is a company”.

First of all why he was riding down alone and that too at night. Now atleast others would get a lesson from it.Its not necessary that every time u get timely help.
