Do you have the wheelie gene?
March 25th, 2006 by Tim GrahlWith two powerful pedal strokes, Matt Fisher brings his front wheel in the air. He glides along the sidewalk, pedaling easily, with a comic grace reminiscent of a unicyclist, as passersby crane their necks to watch him pass.
For most everyone who’s tried it, the wheelie — the quintessential bicycle trick — is nowhere near as easy as Fisher makes it look.
“I think there’s a wheelie gene, and you have to be born with it,” says Nick Martin, a Boulder cross-country racer who last year made a goal of perfecting the wheelie, but is still finding the balance point that makes it work.
