Candlers Moutain Ride
March 8th, 2006 by MikeSunday was a great day for biking here in Lynchburg, VA. Troy, Jimmy and I headed up to Candler’s Mountain for a little mid-afternoon riding. I made the mistake of telling my wife that I wouldn’t be gone long (to her that is about an hour), yeah so… we made it back to the car about 4 hours after our tires hit the trail (just a little longer than expected
).
We hit some trails that I had never ridden before, there were brutal climbs and fast descents. On one of the descents a rock jumped up and bit my Eggbeater C pedal.

Needless to say I can’t clip in where the spindle is bent. I’ll try and straighten it one of these days.
I will classify this ride as one of the longest and hardest rides I have done in a while. I hadn’t been riding much up to that point because of home repairs and getting ready for a baby and my quads let me know toward the end of the ride. I made it back to the truck with both of my quads cramping on me. I would do it again in a heartbeat though. It was a great training ride. I was even more amazed at all the trails my backyard has to offer. Thanks go out to Troy and Jimmy for kicking my butt!!!

Electrolytes are your friend, try some next long ride!
Hey Mike, I’m new to Lynchburg and am looking for places to mountian bike other than Paks View Park, which is great, but I need a variety. I see you went riding at Candlers Mountain. Is there any way you could give me an address or directions to where the trailhead is at Candlers Mountain? That would be awesome. Also, I have been trying to locate a good riding area on the Appalachian Trail on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but haven’t found a good trailhead yet. If you know by any chance there is a good riding spot here, please share!
