Tape contradicts bicycle accident victim

A secretly taped video of Nathan Resch, his face disfigured in a mountain bike accident, contradicts his testimony that he has been depressed, lonely and self-conscious about being in public since the mishap, a jury was told yesterday.

The 2 1/2-hour video, taped over two days in April 2003, shows Resch, now 23, chipper and often smiling as he hangs out with his buddies, works on his car and a friend’s vehicle and does errands with his mother.

“The video shows you didn’t have problems socializing with your peers at all,” said lawyer Mark Edwards, representing Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd.; Procycle Group Inc., the bike’s Montreal manufacturer; and an associated Procycle company, Gestion R.A.D. Inc.
