Fat Bikes
January 20th, 2006 by MikeIn a place like Alaska where it snows sometimes, having a Fat Bike from Wildfire Designs is a good idea.

I know what your thinking and yes they do look like the Surly Pugsley. After talking with the owner of Wildfire Designs I found out that the Fat Bike has been around much longer than the Pugsley. Here is what they have to say about the Fat Bike…
Our unique Fat Bikes are lovingly assembled in Palmer, Alaska. The frames are hand built from a blend of premium True Temper and Columbus double butted chromoly tubing. We stock frames in 15, 17, and 19 inch sizes in Burnt Orange, Gloss Black, and Serac Blue powder coat finish. Custom colors are available for an additional charge.
Wildfire Designs’ megawide offset stays allow full range gearing with no chain rub on those huge tires.
Options include rigid or suspension forks, custom cargo racks, frame triangle packs and quick switch wheel systems for a speedy conversion to MTB or road wheels.
Our complete bikes weigh from 28 to 38 lbs, depending on frame and components. Complete bikes ready to ride are priced starting at $1895.00. Contact us for prices on a custon package to suit your needs.

If you are ever near Palmer Alaska and want to experience the ride of a Fat Bike you are more than welcome to stop by the store and take one for a spin.

I think it’s safe to say that the Wildfire Designs bike is the “father” of the Pugsley. If I’m not mistaken, this is the brand of snowbike that Mike Curiak rides. His has a custom brazed on rear rack and a snow-camo paint job!
