2006 Diamondback Response Comp
January 19th, 2006 by MikeThere is nothing better than your wife calling you at work and telling you a brand new mountain bike has been delivered to your home. When I got home I was welcomed at that door by a big cardboard box containing the new Diamondback Response Comp.

My initial thoughts are that I love the styling of the frame. The top tube merges from round to square, which Diamondback calls “Strong Box”, and the stem matches the square tube. The new DB logo really stands out and is very stylish. I also love the wide Kenda Klaw XT’s that came with it. They just look like they are ready to get dirty.

Here is what Diamondback has to say about the bike:
Featuring the new “Strong Box” frameset the 2006 Diamondback Response series is ready to push your limits - to take on that trail that was always just a little too steep, too rough or too long.
So let’s see – Marzocchi MZ-3 120mm travel fork w/30mm stanchions, Sun Ditchwitch double wall rims, Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes, SRAM X.7 9sp shifters and SRAM SX-5 rear/X-gen front derailleurs! Just mix in a little single track and it’s baked.

Check back for our first impressions and the full review of the bike.

Nice looking rig there. It reminds me of some of Specializeds offerings, hmmm…………
I like the graphics and slate color, but I gotta admit, if there was a bike I liked in that psychedelic lime green and pink, like the photo you posted, I’d be all over it like white on rice!
GT,
I was about to say the same thing. It reminds me of the Spec Hardrock or the P2.
Hey… looks like a nice entry-level ride… I’m looking for something similar. Perhaps even the DB Response. A few questions:
1) How much did you pay?
2) Now that you’ve had the bike for about a month, what are your thoughts?
3) Anything that you would/did change about it?
Thanks!
Hey dude,
I Just bought the same bike like 1 month ago, I have had many problems with the chain coming off popping into 3rd, I adjust the deraler but then it happens again…. also I need a new bottom bracket, it makes hella noise when I peddal hard. I love the way the bike looks though.
Oh yeah, how do you check to see how much air is in your forks? Let me know.
i am a bike tech for a sporting good company, i just bought the responce comp, and the only thing i have to complain about is the shifters, not the derailers, just the ergonomics or the clickersand the head, i just dont like anything that is stamped steel. but just this past week i have put this thing to the test, however the only thing i have to compare this bike to is my buddies garry fischer and the only thing different is the garry fischer is a little lighter. and if anyone wants the best deal for one of these things, apply to a bike shop, mine only cost $ 270.00 through a proform no shipping charges. but everything on this bike is awesome from the kenda claw tires the the marzocchi suspension, and from the avid brakes to the sram derailers front and back.
Josh C,
Where in the world did you score one for $270? Everywhere I’ve checked carrying the 06 Response Comp is at least $500. Thanks.
WOW 270 bucks?! thats the best price I’ve heard for a bike that retails at 600, and I thought I was getting a deal at 460
so far this bike has been very nice, a great buy for the price
Please let us know where you got that price, thanks
What a piece of shit. If I had to buy a new outhouse in bike form, Diamondback would be the one. You know what it feels like when you have really bad constipation. That is what this bike is all about. From the uncomfortalbe seat to the ugly detail, this bike is like jumping naked into a rosebush. Every rose may have its thorns, but Diamondback is all of those thorns and more.
Frame weight? Bought the entry level Response at the beginning of this year. For an entry level bike, this is a good buy, period. Get nothing but kudos about the styling. Anybody know the frame weight for this line of strongbox frames.
I bought this bike as leftover 2 weeks ago. It was listed as $599 on sale for $459 at dick’s sporting goods, I got $50 off for some nicks and scratches on the bike so my purchase price was $409.
I really like the way this bike feels, I dumped it twice so far, once going threw a creek on some rocks and once on a downhill that I lost control. Both times there was no damage to the bike or it’s componets (I was very surprised).
The only thing I don’t like about the bike is the weight, it is a tad heavy, but it’s a good bike for the money!
I just purchased the 07′ gold version for $250 through a manager special at Sports Authority. It was originally $700 retail there. Also I used a $50 coupon on top for a total of $200 out the door, brand spanking new. The bike rides great and is very durable. It is heavy though for having a 6061 aluminum frame but it makes up for this in its strength. Overall great bike with decent components. Definitely a great deal that won’t break the bank.
i believe it is 34 pounds. im debating whether to by the response comp or a gt avalanche 2.0 disc. the only reason i would not buy this bike is because of the weight. whoever was complaining about the seat needs to grow a pair, mountain biking isnt about comfort, also diamondback isnt really known for the mtb’s but theres nothing wrong with this as an entry level bike.
I have had the diamondback response for about a year now and about a week ago the derailer (sorry for miss spelling) fliped up and went in my chain and broke. How much do u think it will cost.
nice bike send me a email if you can trade me a guitar for it
nice bike send me a email if you can trade me a guitar for a dimond back
or a bike I can race, a cross country bike, the guitar is worth $200.00 it’s a IBANEZ GIO black with American flags (stickers)
my chain keeps popping off when i pedal hard in second gear, and pretty often when i am in 3rd gear. what can i do to make it stay on? i have a DB response comp that i just bought today.
I have the bike and its flaw is in the rear cassette. To keep it from popping off you need to sit down for a few minutes and tweak the gears/deraiulers- sp and also bend out the front deraiuler bracket. I did it to mine and it works great. Also, i got a good deal too, Dicks had it 2 weeks ago for 299. its usually 500 there.
I have this bike Mine is a dirt orange color. Ilove my bike.. its a tough bike:) and fun:)
I bought this exact same model a year and a half ago and love it. I need to replace the bottom bracket but am having difficulty sourcing it since I moved outside the USA. Can you confirm if the 2006 model uses the same one specified in the 2007 and 2008 model i.e. Truvativ Power Spline Bottom Bracket. If it’s the same, then I will buy one and get it fitted. Thanks. Mike
