When Porsche’s design studio decides to go after a marketplace, it rarely fails to impress. Such was the case when it released the FS Evolution mountain bike. The bike pictured here is the 2001 model, mainly because we think it looks better than the 2002 model.

Is Porsche still making these bikes? If I remember correctly, Votec, the company that was manufacturing them, went out of business. I just tried to check their website at http://www.votec.com and it seems to confirm that they are now defunct.
I don’t really understand who is paying so much for these bikes. I guess they are marketed to wealthy Porsche owners who view them as status symbols. It reminds me of the Mercedes bikes made by AMP that were sold in the late nineties. Basically, you got an overpriced AMP with a Mercedes logo on it, but you could get it from your Mercedes dealer. I don’t really know enough about the Porsche bikes to criticize them, but, on the surface, they appear to be more about status than substance. Maybe I’m wrong; I would love to hear from someone who has ridden one.
Porsche are still selling these bikes. They were originally manufactured by Votec, but are now made to similar specifications by Storck http://www.storck-bicycle.de .
I’ve been riding a Porsche FS (the blue, ‘99, full suspension model) for the past year and a half.
The FS is a serious bike. It’s responsive, nicely balanced, tough (despite its slightly fragile looks) and it won’t upset the weight weenies too much. It is certainly on par with the mid-range fs Specialized and Treks I’ve ridden.
A few of my MTBing friends have been quick to brand it as purely eye candy that’ll surely handle like a pig, only being surprised by its agility and efficiency after a quick ride.
It’s an unusual bike, so it gets a lot of stares and comments, but the attention gained from its exotic looks can be quite unwelcome at times.
The bike is beautifully built. The tig welds on the frame are a lot better than those on many of the other ‘high end’ MTBs out there. Componentry hasn’t been scrimped on with Cane Creek wheels/hubs/shock and full XT complimenting the Votec frame and fork.
All in all I’ve found my FS to be a fantastic machine that’s proven itself on some serious rides, many times over.
There’s ‘better’ MTBs around for same RRP Porsche has these for sale at, but if you get the opportunity to pick one up at a more favourable price, it’s well worth considering.
I am a mountain biking Porsche fan so I appreciate Tim’s comments. I have the opportunity to buy the fs evo at a real “knock down” price, it’s only a show piece at the Porsche showroom and I think they are happy to let it go to “a friend”. The components and frame are a big improvement on the Scott that I am currently riding. I am looking forward to start testing it out in the forests around Stockholm where I live.

I have the FS Evolution model. I paid the equivalent of just under €. I don’t want to spoil you negotiations with Robert! If you want to post your email address I can let you know the price. Heaps of money but the components are top class and the bike handles great. It has full XTR gear on a monocoque carbon fibre chasis. It does get some strange looks sometimes, but it is a great ride.

Bought a Porsche FS on eBay, spent some time and $$$ to get it right…It was like nothing else I have ever ridden. The ride and balance were perfect, the disc brakes unreal…sold it along with my entire PD collection to a physician in HA, and now I want another, but I’m looking on the German eBay site for the original Votec with the optional raised handlebar set-up.

If there is a high demand for these bikes, my ridding buddy has the slightly older model with the 3 spoke wheels and could be tempted to sell his.
Both of us have a few different bikes (and not enough time to ride) so we only ride our Porsche Evo’s occasionally, ie when it is good weather & conditions ….. nice bright sunny day and then have two high spec, carbon Porsche FS Evo’s out together … where in the world could you see that?

I noticed this site and see that some people are looking for a Porsche FS mountain bike. I have one that has been stored for five years and has only three miles on it. Yes, 3 miles. It is new and was only ridden once. Immaculate condition. I don’t know how much it is worth, but if someone is interested, you can contact me at DQ1@cox.net. I can also email you pictures of it. The rubber little tips on the tires are completely intact and seriously, you can’t even tell it was ridden the one time. It is a gorgeous bike and the design is very eye catching. I have a Porsche FS. The bike is awesome . Mine also has about 10 miles on it. Currently hanging in my dining room like a piece of art work on the wall. Hardest action this bike has seen is a good dusteing!
