2004 Cyclist Fatalities Report
January 9th, 2006 by Tim GrahlThe United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released statistics of 2004 cyclist deaths and crashes. 725 cyclists died in traffic crashes, accounting for 2% of all traffic fatalities; another 41,000 were injured.
Cyclist fatalities occurred more frequently in urban areas (66%), at nonintersection locations (67%), between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. (30%), and during the months of June, July, and August (36%). The average age of the victim was 38.7 years. 87% of the victims were male.
