Favorites of 2005

December 29th, 2005 by Tim Grahl

Since everyone is going on about their favorites for 2005, I’ll throw my thoughts out as well…

Favorite Bike Blog: Blue Collar Mountain Biking
Favorite Bike Blog Network: Crooked Cog Network
Favorite Topical Bike Blog: Twenty Nine Inches

Ok enough about me…

Favorite Blue Collar Partner:

Mike Queen. Couldn’t do it without him.

Favorite Crooked Cog Blogger:

RL Policar runs CommuteByBike.com. He’s been a huge help to the Crooked Cog network and does a bang up job with the site. Actually… don’t waste anymore time here, go check out his site.

Favorite New Bike Friends:

Jon Maus of BikePortland.org and previously of the Just Riding Along blog. We geek out in all the same ways, it’s actually quite scary. Had a ball this year discussing bikes, marketing and blogs.

Tim Jackson of Masi Bikes. Lord of bike geekdom.

Jeff Kerkove is the man. He rides endurance races and I got to hang out with him for awhile at Interbike.

Guitar Ted is also the man. Not only does he know Kerkove (def cool points) but he has a great blog and invited me to Trans Iowa.

Fritz. He has almost as many blogs as I do.

Favorite Industry People:

Surly guys are awesome. Read their blog, ride their bikes and do your best not to fall into their moral decay.

Ryan Atkinson of Gary Fisher. Very cool guy who actually takes time out of his schedule to bike banter with little ol me.

Michael Browne, editor of Dirt Rag Magazine. Also wastes way to much time answering questions and giving advice to me.

Favorite Blue Collar Accomplishment:

Getting more Interbike pictures on the site in the shortest amount of time then any other site. (Next year will be MORE!)

Favorite thing about the first full year of running Blue Collar:

By far the coolest thing is knowing that thousands of people show up to this site everyday looking for something interesting to read. I love being a very tiny part of the coolest industry and for having the chance to interact with the people who are the true soul of the sport.

Keep riding and keep reading. It’s only gonna get better.

Tim, and all at Blue Collar/ Crooked Cog Network:

Congrats on the bang-up job you all do. A very impressive lot you all are! Keep up the good work, and as always, stay “blue collar”!

So, knowing Jeff scored me “cool points”, eh? I’m not sure that works the other way for him though! Seriously: thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it very much!

  2. 2 Tim Jackson- Masiguy

Lord of Bike Geekdom? Is that anything like King of the Dipshits?

Thanks man and right back atcha!

I’m thrilled to have you working with the group on the Kool-Aid blog too. I’m excited about the potential of the project and hope that you are able to keep being a part of it.

    Here’s to a speedy end to ‘05 and a great new ‘06!

  3. 3 Fritz

I’m honored to make your “favorites” list!

Interbike photos: Just be sure to get a decent camera next year! Another idea: Shoot some video @ Interbike. That way I have something else to make fun of when you post blurry Bigfoot videos.

  4. 4 Jonathan Maus

Ditto Tim. You forgot to mention that if it wasn’t for you I would have never learned about the wonders of WordPress. Thanks for all your technical help and blogging advice over the past few months. It has been invaluable to me.

Maybe in ‘06 we can all get together for a ride somewhere?!

  5. 5 Tim Jackson- Masiguy

Oh yeah, a ride sounds awesome! Let’s work on that…

  6. 6 Fritz

Jonathan and Masiguy are on the west coast, Grahl & Co are all on the east coast. I say split the difference and meet up at my place in Colorado for a ride :-)

Moab isn’t too far from here either.

  7. 7 Jonathan Maus

that’d be awesome Fritz! Let’s keep that on the radar for sure…but then again Tim’s having a baby so he’ll be occupied for a few months at least ;-)

HEY —Fritz & Jonathan: We know that Tim has a way with ~faults~ don’t expect Tim to hold up to his word Upon My commentary, HE told Me that he would direct the MASI website to improve. I gave the guidelines, in what be (originally) missing. >>> All that he do, is debate Me. Breaking his word, via his original email to Me. I can imagine how HARO/MASI enforce the WARRANTY. ssscccaaaaaaarrryyyy

  9. 9 mike
