Boston-based Bike-a-thon raises $23m for charity

The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is the most successful athletic fundraising event in the US. The organisers of the ride contributed the $23m to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The record-setting sum is more than twice the amount ever raised or donated to a charity by an American athletic fundraising event, an industry worth $1bn a year.
