Clinchers or tubulars for `cross?

Ask your average die-hard ‘cross fanatic to comment on the burning social, political or economic issues of the day and you may not get too much of a response. Now ask “tubular or clincher?” and you’re bound to get an earful. Of course, much of what you hear is as likely to confuse as it is to enlighten.

Old-school Euro’s will, without a doubt, defend their motto “tubular or death,” while the North American racer with a mountain-bike background will thoughtfully explain that the suppleness of the best tubular can be compensated for with rubber technology and the advanced tread patterns of today’s clincher.
