Riders donate bicycles to displaced N.O. residents, students

Baton Rouge isn’t the most bicycle friendly city, but it’s got friends with lots of bicycles in Boulder, Colo., and Seattle.

Bicycle riders in those cities have collected hundreds of bicycles for shipment to Baton Rouge to be used by college students displaced by Hurricane Katrina and residents of Federal Emergency Management Agency trailer parks.

The first of the bicycles, ones shipped from Boulder, were distributed last weekend at the FEMA park on Groom Road near Baker.
