Whether you’re mountain biking or planning a whitewater paddle, planning your route is always a distinct part of the the adventure. Googe makes it easier with its new web-based program (not yet available for Macs) that can provide you with satellite photos of almost any terrain. You can run Google Earth on your average PC.
Start scouting rivers you’d like to paddle or the peaks and valleys on a singletrack loop before you hit the dead end in the middle of the trail. Visit www.earth.google.com and download the free version today. Or, take advantage of pro–and start doing fly-bys.

I’m not so sure this will actually help us find any new trails…. but it’s still cool. I downloaded the free version from Google, and it’s so precise that I was able to zoom in on my Dad’s truck from a photo taken by a satellite. Sometimes the images are a year old, but you get the idea. Rockin.
