Memorial Ride To Be Held Tomorrow For Utah Cyclist

OCTOBER 07, 2005 — SALT LAKE CITY, UT (BRAIN)—Cyclist Allan Butler, member of the Logan Race Club’s Healthy Choice-Goble Knee Clinic Elite Cycling Team, was struck and killed by a taxicab while crossing Las Vegas Boulevard during the early morning hours of Sept. 30.

Butler, 29, was attending Interbike and was planning to return to his home in Salt Lake City after the show.

According to teammate and close friend, Marc Yap, Butler had just secured his place as the No. 1 ranked rider in Utah for the 2005 season. Butler was a Logan Race Club Elite Team member since 2002.

Ugh. This just proves you can never be too careful…. even if you have the right of way some people still don’t stop. Tim and I were pretty careful to wait for the “walk” signals in Vegas, but it’s still hard not to run out with the people that jaywalk. I don’t want to learn the hard way…
