6th Annual Poor Mountain Hill Climb

September 27th, 2005 by Pat

For those of you looking to get in one last race before the season closes you should check out the Poor Mountain HillClimb in Roanoke. The race is to be held on October 2, 2005.

We have made some changes since 2003, eliminating the first mile of paved road. The course now is 6 3/4 miles long with a total of about 3000 vertical feet of climbing. The first 1 1/2 miles gently climb on a paved road.

Then comes 1/2 of pavement with a 13% gradient.

The following 4 miles are dirt with some small loose rocks and lots of embedded rocks. This surface is hard packed with a 12% gradient. The final 3/4 miles are steep, hardpacked gravel with a gradient from 15% to 16%. This is an excellent all weather course.

For those who don’t want to do a hillclimb
there is the Rowdy Dawg race in Blacksburg.

Classic hardcore single track. Apologies to all regarding the scheduling conflict with the Derailer Series. This was the only date that was going to work with the organizers. Next year we’ll work harder to avoid conflicts. Racing in SW VA needs as much help as it can.
