Goodbye Batteries Front and Rear Bicycle Lights

September 25th, 2005 by Mike

While at BikeBiz.com today I read about a company called Goodbye Batteries, a UK company, that has invented a front and rear blinking LED light that needs no batteries (I’m starting to realize where they got their company name). The lights use magnets and the spinning of the wheel for power. You mount the lights on the axle of the bike and the magnets are slotted onto the spokes and you are ready to go. There has also been studies done in Denmark using these lights and they have found a 20% reduction in bicycle accidents since they’ve been in use.

I have mounted a front and rear set of these. They are very effective for night riding…when you have to do it. Automobile drivers seem to automatically know that a blinking white is coming towards them and blinking red is a rear light. Unfortunately while change a front tire the front light hit the street and broke. They are a little tender. The pound/dollar exchange rate is steep and consequently the lights are expensive. I am ordering another pair and will ask if they will replace my front one. They really work effectively.
