Riding Peaksview and Candlers Mountain

September 19th, 2005 by Mike

I had two good rides yesterday, which is pretty abnormal for me. I started out over at Peaksview Park where Tim raced a couple weeks ago. I rode most of the race course, which took about an hour maybe less. Tim called me right before the last section (Ivy Ridge) and said that he and Carl were heading over to Candlers Mountain. I was feeling pretty good so I went on over. Candlers and Peaksview are very different rides. Peaksview has some technical sections but not many, mostly some rolling hills and smooth sinletrack. Candlers, on the other hand, is very technical with some man made bridges, many log and creek crossings etc. and is comprised mostly of rocks and roots. We rode Candlers for about an hour and then headed home.

Rear brake

My rear wheel on the Ibex Ignition 3 was rubbing pretty bad before I left for Peaksview so I had to do a little adjustment to the brake housing. I first tried to adjust the brake out a little and that didn’t make a difference because it was rubbing against the left side of the housing (the stationary side). Once that didn’t work I loosened a couple of the allen-head screws and shifted the housing over a little. That did the job. I adjusted the brake in a little bit and I was ready to go.

I was very pleased with my riding today. It’s been a while since I have been able to ride that long. The Ibex Ignition 3 is performing great so far. I have a few problems with rear disc rubbing but I solved those today. I also started to get a little chatter and skipping on the rear cassette the last couple of rides but I also fixed that today with a simple rear derailleur adjustment. So far I have no complaints.
