Cycling event brings national media to Snowshoe

August 19th, 2005 by Tim Grahl

The Register-Herald:

Local cycling fans and outdoor enthusiasts have three more days to catch the NORBA National Mountain Bike Series at Snowshoe Mountain. This is the eighth stop in the series, and its sixth straight year at Snowshoe.

NORBA received extra attention Thursday as ESPN featured it in its West Virginia segment of SportsCenter’s 50-states-in-50-days tour.

Lee said mountain bike racing does not receive as much media attention as U.S. Cycling would like, but says he hopes the ESPN broadcast will help change that.

“When people think of cycling in general, the first thing that comes to mind is Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France, and not mountain biking,” he said. “Any exposure we can give the sport across the U.S. will certainly help grow interest in the sport.”
