Why do I keep sweating after a ride?

Q. I ride during my lunch hour, then sweat at my desk through my clothes for an hour after I’m done and showered. How can I stop the perspiration before I start losing raises?
A. Add 10 minutes to your lunch and buy Italian suits.
Seriously, the science behind this phenomenon is simple. You go out and bust your butt for 45 or 50 minutes, run inside, jump in the shower, then throw on a heavy layer of constrictive clothing. Gee, I wonder why you’re still sweating. Try these three steps:
1. Steal 10 minutes. I know it’s hard to do, but sneak out a little bit early so you can jump on your bike before noon, do your ride, then give yourself at least 10 minutes to warm down so your cardiovascular system has a chance to return to normal. Tell your boss you’re checking the fax or something. You may even be able to take 5 minutes to stretch–something most of us skip right over when we ride at lunch.
