First-time mountain bikers get a chance to compete at Fair Hill Cross Country Classic

When 27-year-old Matt Hearn of New Castle bought a mountain bike in March, he figured one of two things would happen — he would either ride it on a regular basis or it would become a clothes rack.

Hearn said he considers himself fortunate that the former occurred, and now he’s taking things a step further. On July 17, he’ll be riding in his first mountain bike race, joining about 600 other riders in the 2005 Fair Hill Cross Country Classic.
