Crank Brothers Multi-17 Tool

June 28th, 2005 by Tim Grahl

UPDATE: Blue Sky Cycling has this tool for $15. Four bucks less. That covers shipping. Thanks to Bryan for the heads up.

I consistently see the Crank Brothers tools at the top of review charts. JensonUSA has their Multi-17 tool for $19. Tools included:

  • 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm hex wrenches
  • Philip’s and flathead screwdrivers
  • chainbreaker
  • 4 sizes of spoke wrenches
  • 8 and 10mm open wrenches
  • Torx T25 (for disc brakes)

I found one at http://www.blueskycycling.com for $14.98, that is still the price listed on their website.

this tool gets my stamp of approval!

even the Chain Tool is solid!

those who travel without tools (including pump and tube)
need to learn the lesson that walking home teaches
a short ride often equals a long walk

    I know….

I have walked many a time
    and will certainly walk again

One good thing to note is that the tool also inlcudes a 8mm allen, something many tools don’t and that is needed to tighten down loose cranks!

That’s by far my favorite multi-tool. I had one until it got stolen (while attached to my bike) and I couldn’t find one the next time I was at the shop.

without one of these wrenches I would have literally walked a mile or more back to the trailhead. Like someone else said, the 8mm allen is a lifesaver. I had a crank bolt come loose and pop out (luckily I was going slow and realized it and found the bolt) and used the only 8mm allen wrench in our group - on a friend’s CB17 tool. I have since purchased one :)
