Both winners are on the mend from injuries

June 22nd, 2005 by Tim Grahl

The Salt Lake Tribune:

For anyone who has suffered a major injury, take heart: Broken bones do heal, and quite well apparently. The overall winners of the National Off-Road Bicycle Association’s race in Deer Valley are both coming off major injuries.

The men’s overall winner was Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, who won Friday’s time trial and placed third in Sunday’s short-track event to win the general classification.

Only six weeks ago, Horgan-Kobelski had a horrendous crash at the Sea Otter Classic, breaking seven ribs, fracturing his sacrum and bruising his femur.

The women’s overall title went to Luna’s Shonny Vanlandingham, who finished the weekend with her second dominating performance in as many days.

Vanlandingham was coming off her own injury, as she broke her left fibula in France earlier this year.
