A Move in the Right Direction for Mountain Bike Advocacy

They’ll soon be moving mountains on Greenville’s northeast side. Last week, the Greenville City Council unanimously approved allowing a group of mountain bike enthusiasts to construct and maintain a nonmotorized vehicle dirt path on city property. When they’re finished clearing brush, small trees and dead trees, the seven-mile trail will resemble “a gob of spaghetti” (City Manager George Bosanic’s description) in an area bounded by the Flat River, Ranney Street and the Greenville Area Community Center around Alan G. Davis Park.
What a novel idea. We have to admit that thoughts of a mountain bike trail never entered our minds before this discussion.
The beauty of the project is that the city will incur no expense. We also see a number of other benefits.
