Getting Out of the Comfort Zones

To clip, or not to clip, that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The scrapes and bruises of outrageous wipeouts,
Or to leap free, unencumbered by clinging metal,
Thus sacrificing bike and preserving body.

mountain biking

Okay, who let the raging English major loose?
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. As soon as I got into the debate on clipless pedals, Hamlet’s speech popped into my head.

My next question is, why are they called clipless pedals when they actually clip your feet firmly to the bike?
That aside, I have changed my mind on a minute-by-minute basis about whether or not I intend to clip in when riding my mountain bike (please, don’t tell my mother. She has a very strong opinion on it being idiotic).

well, the reason they are called clipless is: you know those strap things you see on some pedals, with the belt buckle like things…those are pedal clips… no clips, means clipless…makes no sense, i know:)
personally, although it took some serious bike time, I wouldn’t ride without clippin in…it’s all in your mind man….clippin in really is much better for handling skills and if you happen to wipe, it doesnt even phase the momentum of a perfect fall, in other words, your shoes just pop right out without a glich. mind over matter, and pretty soon the mind wont matter.

I can’t ride without my clipless. When I am riding on platforms I don’t feel like I have complete control of the bike.
