Mountain bikers hit trails with gusto

A few years ago, Wally Sniadajewski of Plover was looking for a method of regular exercise that would help him stay active and keep his blood sugar in check.
Sniadajewski, a diabetic of 30-plus years, ended up finding that exercise in an unexpected place - off the beaten path and on the local mountain biking trails.

Now, Sniadajewski, 45, is an avid biker. He even takes vacation time to travel the country and compete in national mountain biking contests.

“For health purposes, I said ‘this sounds like a pretty good deal,’” he said. “I started out basically from rock bottom. … Through the years, it’s progress, and it’s been through the help of people in the club.”

That club is Point Pursuit, a local biking organization that claims people of all ages and abilities as its members. The club held its first official group ride Wednesday at Standing Rocks Park in Stevens Point. With temperatures finally climbing and the trails freshly open after their winter-long hiatus, club members said Wednesday they couldn’t wait to get going again.
