Hot Shades!
May 4th, 2005 by CarlGenerally, I either don’t ride with sunglasses on or I wear $5 gas station specials. Typically, the Exxon brand shades tend to fog up, but when I don’t wear them…. go figure…. I get smacked in the face with a thorn covered suprise.
While cruising around on the web I came across Spy Optic. I must say, I love their sunglasses… even though I don’t own a pair yet. They have a fairly wide selection, and many pairs are specific for xc mountain bikers. They even sell face masks for skiing, snowboarding, and downhill riding.
Their glasses retail from anywhere between $70-140, which is a bit pricey. However, with a little research, you can find them all over the place for MUCH CHEAPER online. Overstock.com has a few pairs for under $60, and on ebay you can get a great pair for about $40. I may trade in my “made in china” cheapies for some scoops from Spy.
You can check out the company at their website here.

Take a look at http://www.RydersEyewear.com or stop into bikes Unlimited and see a nice selection of there glasses. They have good optics and a fair price, with most glasses starting under $40.00
I have a pair of Nike sunglass I got from sunglass hut about 4 years ago. These things are bullet proof. I do a lot of running and they are the only sunglasses I have ever owned that didn’t slide around once I start sweating. They have this rubber piece on the bridge of the nose that grip in spite of the sweat. They were about 90 back then, but anything can survive 4 years of trail running, and mtbing is worth the money in my oppinion. Remind me and i’ll show em to you.
