It saddens me to hear things like this happening, especially when it’s in my own town…

Bicyclist killed in Fullerton
The 42-year-old man falls off his bike along Euclid Street and is run over by a car.

By JOHN McDONALD
The Orange County Register

FULLERTON – A bicyclist was fatally injured when he fell off his bike and was run over by a car, police said today.

Timothy Darren Born, 42, of Fullerton was riding his bicycle northbound on Euclid Street, just south of Orangethorpe Avenue, at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday when he struck the curb and fell onto the roadway.

Sergio Carrillo Orozco, 48, of Fullerton was northbound on Euclid in a black Toyota pickup truck when he noticed the car in front of him swerve to the left, apparently to avoid hitting Born. Orozco attempted to do the same but was unable to avoid hitting Born, police said.

Born was pronounced dead at Anaheim Memorial Hospital with head and chest injuries.

Orozco was questioned and released without being issued any traffic citations.

What I don’t get is how the guy that killed the biker gets off with out a citation?
I guess killing a guy on a bike isn’t considered a “traffic citation.”

Well that kinda shocks me…i was riding that exact same street…at 2:30, earlier that day…..my opinion is the traffic is really crazy there and if you arent a very experienced cyclist, you should stay off that road and get on the sidewalk….take it from me, it wasn’t the drivers fault…everything happens fast on euclid , for that matter on all major streets like that….euclid street is the street i ride 3.5 miles to get to the fullerton loop trailhead….it doesn’t surprise me what happened, it just brings it a little closer to home, about two miles away. If your not sure if theres enough room, find another route or get on the sidewalk, (california has it’s downfalls)

Erik, I am going to have to agree with you with Euclid being too busy. That street can be scary at times. I really wish the city would even put a cross walk where Euclid and Hilscher Park meets.
