More Damage
April 15th, 2005 by Tim GrahlMy frikken luck on equipment hasn’t been that great lately. I got the Gary Fisher X-Caliber back yesterday (only cost me $24!) from Bikes Unlimited and headed over to Peaks View for a ride with Mike. About a half hour in I was going up this quick climb with a log crossing and I stood up and leaned forward to power over it. Well when I yanked up with my right foot I felt something pop and my shoe came off the pedal. I stopped and looked down… and sure enough, the cleat was still attached to the pedal along with part of my shoe.

So I dropped the bike and pulled up my foot to look at the sole of the shoe and there was a gaping hole.

Consider the fact that Egg Beaters are pretty worthless for riding without being able to clip in, we headed on back. So I am in the market for some more shoes. Suck.

Dude, I know how you feel. I have a converted single speed that looks like frakenbike with all the parts I’ve scavenged for it. No sooner do I fix the popping which I thought was my bottom bracket/ chainring bolts/ finally got it with changing pedals, my rear brake adjusting screw strips. I fixed the brakes and now I break a spoke. Lucky for me I have an extra spoke and should have the time to fix it some time next week.
Best of luck with the shoes.
at least it did not happen in a situation where you were trying something
something that demanded that connection
it sucks
but
at least it happened when no one got hurt
and you were not too far into the ride
a broken seat post can teach a person how much time they actually spend in the saddle
Dump the Eggbeaters. I got a pair and they are darn difficult to clip out of. I talked with several other riders down here and they had the same experience. I bought shimano 520 and they work great. Anyone want to buy a set of Eggbeaters cheap?
Man I love the egg beaters. Both clipping in and out. This didnt happen cause of the beaters, I wasn’t even trying to clip out. This happened cause I am cheap and have been riding with shoes that are over ten years old.
Love the beard!
